I’m learning a new stitch! I found a nice pattern for a certain gift to make for a certain someone, and it requires a “foundationless double crochet row.” The name of the actual stitch is called the Triple Base Chain stitch (you can get the the tutorial here). On the one hand, I can see it being useful when you want your pattern to have the utmost flexibility… But on the other, keeping tension is tricky (so far) and it does look a wee bit different from a regular double crochet row. Not decided on it yet, but excited to learn a new way of doing something!

I had the pleasure of one of my favorite bloggers/twitter peeps, Courtney Dial of Pizzazzerie! She graced NYC and Chelsea Market, where I was able to snag a signed copy of her book, Push-up Pops! Awesome to meet you Courtney, and looking forward to what’s next! Also, can’t wait for my next “event” to test out some of these recipes!! How cute are these things??

I love Spain in the Spingtime! We took a brief but awesome jaunt to Barcelona and Priorat for an extended weekend of weddings and wine tastings and Catalan cooking! We had a fabulous time, lucked out with superb weather and truly made think whether NYC is reallythe only place on earth where I can survive! I hope you enjoy some of these highlights from our trip!

Oh, how I love weddings, and associated parties! On March 29, we fly out to Barcelona to celebrate the wedding my wonderful co-worker & her fiance! I am so excited, and our office will be throwing them a little shower to send them off right! In addition to pitching in to get them a gift certificate to the ICE to take a cooking class of their choice, some of brought in some homemade treats. My contribution: A pear tart, which is quite possibly one of the best things I make, and a little “emergency kit” I put together (from experience, you never know what little disasters may happen on your wedding day - always good to be prepared!). The emergency kit was fun and easy to put together, and I certainly want to keep making them and refining the “ingredients”! I was told it came in handy, too!

Flower arrangement lesson #3! Essentially this is another take on the oval-shaped centerpiece, but with a candle. It’s pretty old-school though, (church service, anyone?), but I really loved the colors! And, I graduated to roses! OOOOoooo! Sadly, my next class isn’t for another month because our class space got rented out for other purposes, but I am hoping to try my hand at some arrangements myself based on the skills I’ve learned so far. I was also able to see what my final arrangement is going to be, and it’s sooo exciting! I’m going to take a little breather for the month of may and pick up again some time in June, when hopefully the flower selection will be super great.

The last of the birthday cupcakes! These were my least successful experiment, but still tasty. They came out more like a cookie, but the intent was to create more of an ombre texture using different flavors of chocolate: bottom layer - yummy, rich chocolate; top layer - white cake with hint of chocolate + choc chips; frosting - white chocolate buttercream. The cake was too dense, (I figured out why), but the frosting was a-freakin’ mazing! Not too many April b-days on the horizon, but I’ll have something fun for a special May birthday coming up…

Happy Spring Everyone!

Hey gang -

Sorry for the hiatus! Things have been a wee bit crazy around here! A wedding in Spain, immediately followed by business travel, immediately followed by life craziness! Anyhoo, prepare yourselves for the onslaught of craft awesomeness that was the end of my March. I am sad to report, however, that April is off to a disappointing start. I have lots of ideas in my head but, none quite coming to fruition as of yet. Sit tight though - I have got lots of goodies in store for you. My first sewing class starts on Sunday, so a new level of project will start up, for which I am uber excited! More soon lovelies!

Spring and All [By the road to the contagious hospital]

By the road to the contagious hospital
under the surge of the blue
mottled clouds driven from the
northeast-a cold wind. Beyond, the
waste of broad, muddy fields
brown with dried weeds, standing and fallen

patches of standing water
the scattering of tall trees

All along the road the reddish
purplish, forked, upstanding, twiggy
stuff of bushes and small trees
with dead, brown leaves under them
leafless vines-

Lifeless in appearance, sluggish
dazed spring approaches-

They enter the new world naked,
cold, uncertain of all
save that they enter. All about them
the cold, familiar wind-

Now the grass, tomorrow
the stiff curl of wildcarrot leaf
One by one objects are defined-
It quickens: clarity, outline of leaf

But now the stark dignity of
entrance-Still, the profound change
has come upon them: rooted, they
grip down and begin to awaken
